Did we miss the memo about Christmas being a year-long affair in 2019? Seems like Disney have plans to dominate the box office all of 2019, and they likely will. As `The Lion King` enters the theatres worldwide, can we acknowledge the fact that Disney have their new year’s resolution nailed? They have been dropping adaptations of classical movies of our favorite animation left and right this year. Their only worry is deciding on the release dates of each of these movies to ensure that it’s not overshadowing the next big release.
Disney’s release schedule:
- Captain Marvel – March 8
- Dumbo – March 29
- Penguins (Disneynature) – April 17
- Avengers: Endgame – April 26
- Aladdin – May 24
- Toy Story 4 – June 21
- The Lion King – July 19
- Artemis Fowl – August 9
- Frozen 2 – November 22
- Star Wars: Episode IX – December 20
This July, The Lion King: Protect The Pride will be aired for fans to indulge in. When the 93 second trailer was released, it broke Disney’s record and garnered 224.6 million views within 24 hours. We did some research on The Lion King and found that they are doing some pretty impressive partnerships. So we decided to share it and hopefully, you’d find this information interesting to you. We’ve listed down 4 projects that are happening to commemorate the release of this movie.
4 Lion King Partnerships
Disney x Woolworths
Disney and Woolworths came up with 24 Lion King Ooshies collectibles that will be available in the Australian market. Shoppers can get their hands on one of these collectibles every time they spend $30 and more in their store or online. These limited edition Ooshies caused a slight havoc in Woolworths grocery stores as fans sweep the shelves in order to redeem these Ooshies. If you decided that you do not want these Ooshies collectibles anymore, Woolworths has partnered up with TerraCycle for you to recycle these Ooshies. All you need to do is return them to Woolies. They will be melted into plastic pellets and remoulded to make other outdoor products.
Centrepoint – give homeless young people a future
Centerpoint is the leading charity organization for homeless young people in the UK. With the help of The Lion King’s audience, they were able to raise £53,000 in 2018. This year, The Lion King will continue to support this cause to give young people a chance to a brighter future. Disney is always looking for ways to help young individuals develop and learn. If you’d like to support the cause, you can visit their website here.
Disney’s Sir John x Luminess Lion King Limited Edition Collection
Beyonce’s makeup artist Sir John partnered with The Lion King and launched a limited edition Lion King themed makeup palette, lipsticks, lip balm, and highlighter. They are gorgeous. They are fierce. Enough said.
Protect the Pride x Lion Recovery Fund
Disney launched ‘Protect the Pride’ campaign and donated $1.5 million to the Wildlife Conservation Network’s (WCN) Lion Recovery Fund (LRF) to support the efforts to raise awareness and recover the lion population in Africa. To give a little context to this movement, in the last 25 years, the population of lions in Africa has decreased by half due to poaching, and destruction of habitats. There are only about 20,000 lions remaining in the wild. However, researchers found that it is very possible to double the amount of lions by 2050. Disney is committed to support the lion conservation movement and believes that The Lion King movie is a great reminder to everyone of these majestic creatures and the importance of protecting them. Disney urges its fans to help double Disney’s initial donation of $1.5mil to $3 million to protect African wildlife. There are many ways to contribute to this, visit their website to find out more.
